COMMUNICATION
(ENGLISH) SKILLS :
OBJECTIVE :
The main objective of the training programme
is to acquire skills in phonetic analysis and
the evaluation of pronunciation problems that
require time and effort not available in compulsory
courses. However, no previous knowledge of phonetics
is assumed.
At the end of the programme, the trainees will
be able to :
1. Listen and speak correct English
2. Understand some of the differences between
spoken and written English.
3. Identify the possible sources of what is
termed ‘INTERFERENCE’
4. Perceive the relation between phonetic/phonological,
syntactic and discourse aspects of spoken English.
5. Pronounce each and every English speech sounds
: vowels and consonants
6. Know and master the concept of Rhythm, Stress,
and Intonation in connected speech in English
7. Pronounce correctly the consonant clusters
in English.
8. Pronounce correctly the plural and past tense
markers in English.
9. Know and master Neutral English.
10. Know the concept of BBC English along with
the three major spoken varieties in English
: British, American and Australian.
11. Know the difference between Accent and Pronunciation,
Enunciation and Articulation.
12. Work on their individual shortcomings.
